Eurofase EF40 is a 39-inch, 4,000 W, dual-quartz-element electric infrared heater for architecturally finished patios and covered outdoor living spaces. These Simply Controlled dealer variants are the 240 V standard-grille models in Black, Stainless Steel or White. Designed for wall, ceiling or appropriately engineered recessed installation, EF40 uses medium-wave infrared heat and 304 stainless-steel construction. Choose the exact finish SKU rather than a decorative-faceplate or different-voltage model.

Surface mounting: Canadian clearances and electrical safety
Eurofase's EF40/EF50/EF60 manual requires installation by a licensed electrician, permanent hardwiring and proper grounding. For Canada, the heater must be mounted more than 8 ft (2.4 m) above the floor. Eurofase also requires more than 3.3 ft (1 m) between adjacent heaters and combustible materials at least 3.3 ft from the front fascia. The manufacturer's standard surface-mount clearance table specifies 18 in from adjacent walls/vertical surfaces and minimum ceiling clearances of 12 in for wall-mounted or 6 in for ceiling-mounted configurations. These values are not a substitute for the installation drawings, and must not be transferred uncritically to a recessed configuration.
The manual recommends a 15-minute cool-down after four hours of continuous operation. Follow its full location, wiring, breaker/disconnect, environmental and maintenance warnings; do not specify conductor or overcurrent-protection sizing from this catalogue page.
What is included with the heater?
Eurofase's series sheet describes a 6-inch wall/ceiling bracket set. Its installation manual illustrates a heater body, two quartz elements, two mounting brackets, fasteners/parts bag, manual and mounting template. Inspect the delivered package against the current manufacturer packing instructions. Sold separately: recessed frame, Type-X enclosure, pole/suspension accessories, controller or wall switch, site wiring, disconnect and electrical labour.
Recessed EF40: matching frame, enclosure and opening
The EF39FMPF 39-inch-class flush-mount frame is a separately orderable accessory in matching finishes. Eurofase's flush-mount manual calls for a 43¾ × 12 in finished opening, a flat non-sloped ceiling, the prescribed 5/8-inch Type-X drywall pocket, a junction box accessible outside that pocket and the high-temperature four-foot whip and ceramic connectors supplied with the flush kit. Decorative heater faceplates are not compatible with flush-mounted installations. Follow the specific frame manual for ventilation clearance around decorative ceiling trim.
Where specified by the approved construction design, the separately sold EF39FRBC Type-X enclosure may form part of that recessed pathway. The enclosure's product name or Type-X material description does not, on its own, certify a fire-resistance rating for the finished ceiling. Confirm the approved assembly and model cross-reference before ordering.
Controls: select by exact heater load and wiring method
The EF40 is a 240 V, approximately 16.7 A load. Eurofase's heater manual illustrates its EFSWPS/EFSWPW duplex switch in a reference wiring diagram, but explicitly directs installers to the switch's own complete wiring instructions. Confirm the actual switch, control box or Wi-Fi controller's ratings, required isolation, loading and permitted control modes before specification. Do not equate the EF40's two elements with approval for arbitrary dual-circuit or dimming schemes.
When to choose EF40 versus EF60
Consider EF40 where the approximately 80-sq.-ft. manufacturer planning footprint and 39-inch format suit the site. For a larger published planning footprint or higher output, compare the EF60 6,000 W dual-element heater (approximately 121 sq. ft.; 25 A at 240 V). Heater count and placement depend on wind, exposure, actual room or patio geometry, mounting height and desired comfort; published area is not a heat-loss calculation.

Frequently asked dealer questions
Can the EF40 be installed on a sloped ceiling? Do not use the manufacturer's flush-mount kit on sloped ceilings. Other mounting scenarios require the current approved surface-mount installation instructions.
Is the recessed kit included? No. Choose the heater and appropriate recessed frame separately, or compare a manufacturer-defined bundle if its exact components suit the design.
Can EF40 share controls with EF60? Never assume interchangeability; verify the selected control's ratings and approved connection diagram for each model.
Dealer project support: provide the patio dimensions, exposure, heater locations, finished ceiling height, available supply voltage and desired control method before final equipment selection. Supplier availability, freight and final pricing require confirmation before order.
Finish the EF40 project — mounting and wiring options
For an approved flat-ceiling recessed design, see the Eurofase 39-inch flush-mount frame. Its manufacturer kit includes a short high-temperature whip; choose a separately sold EFHTW 4-wire connection whip only where a longer 4-wire connection is specified by the qualified installer. The existing 3-wire EFHTW-C control-box whips are a different conductor configuration.
For an alternative high or sloped-ceiling installation, consider the EFSMKB telescoping suspension kit; the 66-inch suspension extension is a separate accessory. Suspension mounting and recessed mounting are alternative installation methods, not components to combine automatically.
For dealer projects needing proportional multi-heater zoning, review the EFURCB24 multi-zone relay control box. Lutron RadioRA 2/3 projects may use a suitable control-signal pathway involving the Lutron LMJ-5T-DV-B 0–10 V module, but the complete Eurofase/Lutron design requires confirmation of exact switching, source/sink signal, load protection and safe shutdown. Neither Lutron lighting modules nor decorative dimmers should be connected directly to a heater's mains load.
Project add-ons: cover and control selection
For seasonal protection, consider the Eurofase protective cover, selecting exact EF39CVRB for the EF40 manufacturer heater family. Turn off the breaker, allow the heater to cool and remove the cover before operation. For independently switched patio-heater circuits, explore weatherproof on/off switches; verify the switch, enclosure, rated current and controller design. For engineered dimming with an EFURCB relay panel, consider EFSWTD1–4 timer/dimmer wall controls, sold separately.
These are optional/project-specific items, not automatically required components. Supplier freight, availability and accessory fit must be reviewed for the complete system order.
