Monitor Audio Vestra W12 is the larger model in the Vestra range: an active sealed subwoofer built around a 12-inch C-CAM high linear-excursion driver with triple-layer suspension and an integrated 500 W high-efficiency Class-D amplifier. It is sold as a single powered subwoofer, with Matte Black and Matte White finish variants.
Monitor Audio publishes an in-room response of 17–200 Hz (-6 dB) and a 115 dB maximum usable peak SPL. Three DSP presets—Impact, Movie and Music—sit alongside stereo RCA, LFE RCA, 12 V trigger, adjustable low-pass filtering, phase switching and automatic signal sensing.

Active subwoofer with 500 W Class-D amplification
Vestra W12 contains its own high-efficiency Class-D amplifier. The current manufacturer specification labels its output as 500 W instantaneous RMS.
This figure describes the subwoofer's built-in amplifier output. It is not passive-speaker power handling and should not be placed into the recommended-external-amplifier fields used for passive loudspeakers elsewhere in the catalog.
12-inch C-CAM driver with triple-layer suspension
The W12 uses a 12-inch C-CAM high linear-excursion driver with a triple-layer suspension system. Monitor Audio uses the additional suspension control to support the driver's greater excursion as it moves the volume of air required for very low-frequency reproduction.
The driver operates in a rigid sealed enclosure. There is no bass-reflex port or port-tuning frequency to account for in placement.
DSP presets: Impact, Movie and Music
Three integrated DSP presets provide quick manufacturer-defined low-frequency voicing choices:
| Impact | One of three manufacturer DSP presets for alternate low-frequency voicing |
|---|---|
| Movie | Dedicated manufacturer preset intended for cinema / AV programme material |
| Music | Dedicated manufacturer preset intended for music reproduction |
These presets are fixed DSP modes. Monitor Audio does not describe W12 as containing microphone-based automatic room correction, so no room-EQ calibration feature is implied.
Low-pass and phase controls
The W12 provides a 32–200 Hz low-pass filter range (-6 dB) plus a 0° / 180° phase toggle. These controls support integration with the main loudspeakers and room.
When W12 is connected through its LFE input to an AV receiver or processor, the upstream electronics may provide the primary bass-management crossover. Follow the system electronics' setup requirements rather than applying overlapping filters without a reason.
Inputs and system integration
| Stereo input | Unbalanced RCA |
|---|---|
| LFE input | Unbalanced RCA |
| 12 V trigger | 3.5 mm mono jack |
| Input impedance | 47 kΩ |
| Phase control | 0° / 180° toggle switch |
The stereo RCA input supports line-level two-channel systems, while LFE provides the normal connection path from a home-theatre receiver or processor. The 12 V trigger can be used where the partnering electronics provide compatible trigger control.
Automatic signal sensing
Vestra W12 includes automatic music sensing. Monitor Audio publishes Auto On when line level exceeds 3 mV and Auto Standby after 20 minutes without the required signal condition.
Subwoofer placement
Monitor Audio emphasizes that subwoofer placement is room-dependent because low-frequency wavelengths interact strongly with walls, floors and room dimensions. There is no universal position that is best in every room.
A useful starting point is along the same wall as the main loudspeakers, then experiment. Monitor Audio cautions that wall and corner placement can reinforce bass but can also excite room modes and make response less even. Moving the subwoofer away from boundaries can improve clarity in some spaces.
If the ideal position is not obvious, Monitor Audio recommends the subwoofer crawl: temporarily place the subwoofer at the primary listening position, play consistent bass content, listen around candidate locations and then move the W12 to the location that produces the smoothest result.
Using one or multiple W12 subwoofers
Monitor Audio explicitly supports Vestra W12 as a standalone subwoofer or in multiples. Multiple subwoofers can help distribute low-frequency energy more evenly across a larger or irregular room when the system electronics and layout support them.
This does not establish a Vestra daisy-chain feature or a fixed maximum quantity. A Canadian retail-list sentence referencing “up to 4 Anthra subwoofers” was inherited from another product family and is intentionally excluded from Vestra technical truth.

| Power consumption at 1/8 output | 60 W | 120 W |
Both models use the same sealed-enclosure, Class-D, DSP, RCA / LFE, trigger and automatic-sensing architecture. Choose W10 when a smaller cabinet is the priority; choose W12 when the system and room benefit from its larger driver, higher amplifier output and greater published peak / low-frequency capability.
