Rack-first, high-density distributed audio. (Dealer Exclusive)

A multi-zone streaming amplifier built for professional racks: 4 independent zones, 8 amplified outputs, and 125W RMS continuous per channel @ 8Ω (all channels driven)—all control and configuration handled in the Sonos app.

4 Zones 8 Amplified Outputs Mono / Stereo configurable per output GaN + PFFB • Fanless convection WiFi 6 + Ethernet ProTune™ (manual tuning) • No Trueplay

Ideal for: distributed audio racks, high-zone-count homes, MDU, and commercial background music where clean wiring, scalable zoning, and predictable thermal planning matter.

Efficiency + reliability

GaN + fanless convection cooling

Designed for rack density: high efficiency, less wasted heat, and no fan noise/dust/failure point.

Commissioning + performance

ProTune™ + Optimize Sonos Speakers

Manual, per-output tuning for low-impedance passive speakers and real rooms. With Sonos Architectural speakers, enable Optimize Sonos Speakers for custom tuning/DSP.

Design flexibility

Outputs assignable to match real rooms

Allocate more outputs to big zones and fewer to small zones—without “one amp per stereo pair” constraints.

System design: outputs → zones → streams

Assign the eight amplified outputs across up to four zones. When configured as four zones, each zone can run its own stream (AirPlay 2 / Spotify Connect / Sonos app playback).

Scaling math (fast)
  • Per unit: up to 4 zones
  • System max: 32 zones total (example: 8 units × 4 zones = 32)
  • Max units in a single zone: up to 16 units when wired via Ethernet (subject to overall 32-zone max)
“When fewer zones” rule
  • Fewer zones configured → fewer concurrent stream options visible
  • Example: single large zone → single AirPlay 2 option
Sub strategy (dealer quick rule)
  • One Sonos Sub per zone (up to 4 total: Sub 4 / Sub (Gen 3) / Sub Mini)
  • The subwoofer output port supports a powered third-party sub and can be assigned to a zone in the Sonos app
  • Assign in app: Zone Settings → Connect Sub
When you need HDMI
Amp Multi is purpose-built for distributed audio. For TV/home theater HDMI connectivity, use Sonos Amp or a Sonos soundbar (and they can coexist with Amp Multi in the same system).

Dealer FAQ
Commissioning, limits, edge cases
Power, audio & tuning
What is the warranty length for Amp Multi?
Amp Multi comes with a 3-year warranty.
Is the 125 W per channel rating peak power or continuous?
Amp Multi delivers 125 watts of continuous (RMS) average power per channel into an 8-ohm load, with all channels driven.
What is the damping factor of Amp Multi?
Approximately 437 with an 8-ohm speaker. (Spec reference: >400 ref. 8Ω, 20Hz–1kHz.)
Does Amp Multi support Trueplay?
No. Amp Multi introduces ProTune—a manual tuning feature. When used with Sonos Architectural speakers, enabling Optimize Sonos Speakers applies custom tuning and DSP tailored to their acoustic design.
Setup, rack & installation
What if I’m in a noisy environment and my device can’t hear the setup chirp?
If the chirp is not detected, you can enter the PIN printed on the back of the unit directly in the Sonos app.
How much clearance does Amp Multi need for airflow if it’s not rack-mounted?
We recommend allowing at least four inches (10 centimeters) of space on the top and sides for proper ventilation.
Why is Amp Multi 1.5U in height, and how does that fit in a rack?
Amp Multi shares the same 1.5U height as Sonos Amp. The Rack Mount (sold separately) adds an extra 0.25U above and below—total 2U—for airflow and easier access.
Why doesn’t the Rack Mount include additional rack screws?
To avoid waste and stay aligned with sustainability goals, only the screws needed to secure Amp Multi to the Rack Mount are provided.
Can Amp Multi be reverse rack mounted?
No. The Rack Mount attaches using mounting holes on the front underside of the unit and cannot be reversed.
Does Amp Multi offer rear rack support?
No. Amp Multi’s design does not require additional rear support in the rack.
Connectivity, subs & ecosystem
How do I assign the subwoofer output to a specific zone?
In the Sonos app, go to Zone Settings, select Connect Sub, and follow the instructions to assign the subwoofer output to the desired zone.
