Eurofase EF61FRBC is the manufacturer-listed 61-inch-class prefabricated Type-X drywall enclosure for recessed EF30/EF60 infrared patio-heater applications. It is a separately priced construction/installation component designed for use with the EF61FMPF frame and a compatible heater. It is not a heater, the visible steel trim frame, or proof that any arbitrary finished ceiling has a certified fire-resistance rating.

Exact product identity and fit

Eurofase's July 2025 specification sheet explicitly identifies EF61FRBC. The current Canadian Eurofase dealer catalogue uses the description 61IN TYPE X DRYWALL COMP. BOX; it is classified as Parcel+ for shipping. The matching recessed heater frames are the 61-inch EF61FMPF series, sold in Black, Stainless Steel and White for EF30 or EF60 heater families.

Plan the ceiling pocket using all three dimensions

Do not treat the 61-inch SKU label as a finished-ceiling cutout. The manufacturer describes a 65⅝ × 12 in finished opening and a steel flush frame measuring approximately 69.94 × 16.94 in outside. The prefabricated enclosure has a different outer footprint (68.1875 × 14.25 in). Verify the actual clear framing depth, opening, finished trim overlap and junction-box accessibility with the installer before the ceiling is enclosed.

Junction-box access and high-temperature connection

Eurofase's EF61FRBC sheet says the supplied junction box may only be used if it remains accessible. If it would be concealed, the installer must bypass it in favour of a suitably accessible junction box. Eurofase offers longer high-temperature whip lengths where needed; the standard separately sold flush-mount kit includes a four-foot high-temperature whip and ceramic connectors. Confirm the correct 4-wire flush-mount whip rather than assuming any 3-wire C-Series control-box whip is interchangeable.

The manufacturer recessed manual requires a licensed electrician, flat non-sloped ceiling, 5/8-in Type-X pocket materials, the downward-facing heater orientation and unblocked ventilation around the frame's perforated flange. Do not use a decorative heater faceplate in the recessed frame.

Fire-resistance claims and project review

Eurofase describes this component as a fire-rated box and lists Type-X construction and “UL Type SCX.” These words do not provide a tested Canadian ceiling-assembly design number or establish that the finished installation is rated for one hour (or another duration). Consult the applicable classified assembly report, local authority and installer for actual construction approval and fire-protection requirements. The component's rating cannot be extrapolated to untested ceilings.

Compatible equipment and purchasing scope

A typical manufacturer-defined EF60 recessed pathway uses the EF60 6,000 W heater, EF61FMPF matching recessed frame, appropriate enclosure and manufacturer-approved electrical controls. For bundled mounting accessories, compare BUNDLE8/BUNDLE10; confirm the package contents and price rather than assuming the bundle is a discount.

The EF61FRBC is the enclosure only. Heater, frame, controller, disconnect, site wiring and installation are excluded. Large-format freight is not verified as included in the proposed dealer price.
