Monitor Audio C165 is a passive, 2-way indoor in-ceiling loudspeaker built around a 6.5-inch MMP II bass driver and a pivoting 1-inch C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter. It is sold as a single speaker with a white round grille and is designed for architectural-audio installations where the speaker must disappear visually while still allowing high-frequency output to be aimed toward the listening area.
The current manufacturer specification publishes a 60 Hz–25 kHz frequency response, 88.5 dB sensitivity at 1 W / 1 m, 107.4 dBA maximum SPL and 65 W RMS power handling. Installation requires a 211 mm round cutout and 116 mm mounting depth.

Pivoting tweeter for installation flexibility
The C165's 1-inch C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter can be pivoted toward the listening area. That matters in real installations because the loudspeaker opening may be determined by joist spacing, lighting, HVAC or room geometry rather than by the ideal acoustic axis alone.
After the tweeter is aimed, an installer-accessible HF level switch provides +3 dB, 0 dB or -3 dB adjustment. The two controls serve different purposes: pivoting changes the direction of high-frequency energy, while the level switch adjusts its relative output.
Driver and acoustic design
C165 pairs a 6.5-inch MMP II cone bass driver with Monitor Audio's 1-inch C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter. The manufacturer publishes a 60 Hz–25 kHz response and 88.5 dB sensitivity at 1 W / 1 m.
The speaker uses an infinite-baffle architectural alignment rather than a freestanding cabinet. The ceiling cavity and installation therefore form part of the acoustic environment, making correct cutout, mounting and cavity planning important.

C165 is rated at 6 ohms nominal, with 65 W RMS power handling and a manufacturer-recommended amplifier range of 20–65 W. The current manufacturer page does not publish a minimum-impedance value, so one is not inferred here.

Pre-construction, back box and grille references
The current manufacturer specification identifies CM-B as the C165 pre-construction bracket and CSM-BOX as the current back-box reference. These current model-specific references supersede older C165 bracket mappings in dated material.
Current Canadian compatibility data also identifies GCPCT6SQ as a square-grille reference and supports an alternate black round grille for the C165 family. These are accessory references rather than items included with the speaker; availability should be confirmed separately.
C165 or C180?
Both models are indoor, passive in-ceiling speakers with pivoting C-CAM Gold Dome tweeters, but they target different opening sizes and output requirements. C165 uses a 6.5-inch bass driver, a 211 mm cutout, 116 mm mounting depth and 65 W RMS handling. C180 moves to an 8-inch bass driver, a 247 mm cutout, 122 mm mounting depth and 120 W RMS handling. The larger model should be chosen only when the ceiling cavity and system requirements justify its additional size and capability.
