SimplyTEST Visual Fault Finder — Fiber Optic VFL with 2.5mm Universal Adapter — ST-VFF5
The ST-VFF5 is a professional fiber optic Visual Fault Locator (VFL) — the essential go-to tool carried by every fiber technician on Canadian commercial and campus installations. It injects visible red laser light into the fiber, making breaks, sharp bends, and bad connectors visible to the naked eye — identifying faults that OTDR traces and power meters alone cannot locate.
Why Every Fiber Tech Carries a VFL
When a fiber run fails continuity or shows unexpected loss, the first troubleshooting step is always the VFL. Visible laser light escaping at a damaged point, sharp bend, or mis-seated connector is immediately identifiable — even through the fiber jacket in some cases. The ST-VFF5 resolves the most common field faults (bad terminations, tight bends in conduit, connector seating issues) in seconds, before reaching for an OTDR.
The 2.5mm universal adapter connects to ST, SC, and FC connectors — the three standard connector types found on Canadian commercial fiber infrastructure — without adapters or converter tips.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the ST-VFF5 work with LC connectors?
LC connectors use a 1.25mm ferrule. The ST-VFF5's 2.5mm universal adapter connects to ST, SC, and FC (2.5mm) connectors. An LC-to-SC adapter is required to use the VFF5 with LC-terminated fiber — a common adapter available separately.
Can a VFL replace an OTDR?
No. A VFL identifies visible faults — breaks, bad connectors, sharp bends — typically within the first 2–5km. An OTDR provides precise loss measurement, splice quality analysis, and fault location over long distances. Both tools are complementary: use the VFL first, OTDR for full characterization.
What is the blinking mode used for?
The 1Hz/2Hz blink mode makes it easier to identify which fiber in a bundle or tray is active — the blinking light is easier to spot in a bundle than a constant beam.
