Overview
The POEJK-2WIRE is a compact IP / PoE extender that pushes 10/100 Mbps Ethernet data and 802.3af/at PoE over existing 2-wire copper or coax. It’s designed for retrofit projects where you want to get an IP camera, intercom, access point or PoE-powered device to a location that only has legacy cabling—without opening walls to pull new Cat6.
Each link uses a pair of POEJK-2WIRE units (one at the network/PoE side and one at the remote device side). With suitable copper, you can reach up to 500 m / 1,640 ft and still deliver PoE power up to 30 W to the far end.
If you’re searching for an IP-over-coax or IP-over-2-wire PoE extender for long runs in Canadian buildings, POEJK-2WIRE is the GRID ecosystem answer.
Key features
- 10/100 Mbps Ethernet over 2-wire or coax – extends 10/100 Mbps data plus PoE/PoE+ over legacy copper.
- PoE / PoE+ support – passes 802.3af/at power with up to 30 W max PoE to the remote device (within distance and cable limits).
- Long-reach extension – up to 500 m / 1,640 ft on suitable 2-core pure copper pair or copper coaxial cable.
- Two-wire or coax options – use BNC for coax or the 2 × 3.81 mm Phoenix terminal for 2-wire twisted pair.
- Pair-based design – devices are used in pairs; one unit at the PoE switch side, one at the remote device.
- Flexible power input – can be powered from upstream PoE or via external DC 44–57 V power supplies when PoE isn’t available (power supplies not included).
- Point-to-point simplicity – ideal for single camera, door controller or POE-Jack® runs over existing copper.

Ideal applications
- Reusing existing coax or 2-wire from old analog cameras to carry IP cameras and PoE.
- Upgrading door phones, gates and intercoms in older Canadian buildings where only 2-wire is present.
- Running PoE to garages, barns, sheds or outbuildings using spare low-voltage pairs or coax.
- Renovations where opening finished walls or core drilling for new conduit would be costly.
Compatibility & ecosystem
POEJK-2WIRE is designed to work alongside GRID PoE switches and Active POE-Jack® deployments as a long-reach “bridge” where Cat6 isn’t practical. One unit lives near the PoE switch, the other near the remote IP device or POE-Jack® node.
The extender simply presents regular RJ45 Ethernet + PoE at each end, so it is compatible with IP cameras, access control panels, small PoE switches, POE-Jack® in-wall switches and other standards-based powered devices.
Install & design notes
- Always use pairs of POEJK-2WIRE units on each extended link (head-end and remote).
- Verify that the existing copper is pure copper (not copper-clad steel or aluminum) and in good condition.
- Use dedicated pairs or coax runs; avoid sharing conductors with other systems.
- At long distances, treat 30 W as an upper bound—real-world available power at the far end will depend on cable gauge and condition.
- If upstream PoE is not available, budget for DC 44–57 V power supplies at the appropriate end(s).
Canada-ready checklist
- ✓ Ideal for Canadian retrofits where running new Cat6 is difficult (heritage buildings, condos, farm structures).
- ✓ Works with typical RG59/RG62 coax and 2-wire low-voltage pairs found in older camera and doorbell installs.
- ✓ Helps extend PoE into unconditioned spaces like detached garages (within product temperature limits and code).
- ✓ Reduces unnecessary demolition and patching in finished basements and suites.
Compatibility micro Q&A
Can I get Gigabit over POEJK-2WIRE?
No. POEJK-2WIRE is designed for 10/100 Mbps Ethernet. In most IP camera and access control applications, 100 Mbps is more than sufficient.
Do I have to use coax, or can I use any 2-wire?
You can use either 2-core pure copper wire or copper coaxial cable. Avoid copper-clad conductors, alarm wire with very small gauge, or mixed conductors in the same sheath.
Can I use just one unit as an adapter?
No. Each link requires two POEJK-2WIRE units—one at each end of the legacy cable run.
