Lotus LED Driver Selection Guide — Canada

This guide helps Canadian Lotus LED Lights dealers choose the correct driver, emergency driver, transformer, or power supply when quoting or ordering through Simply Controlled.

Most Lotus recessed fixtures already include a 120V TRIAC dimmable driver. For a standard residential 120V recessed-lighting project with a compatible wall dimmer, there is usually no extra driver to order.

Order an optional driver when the project requires 0-10V dimming, DALI, 347V/commercial voltage, emergency battery backup, LED tape, or puck lighting.

7-step dealer selection process

  1. Identify the exact Lotus fixture or product family. For recessed fixtures, choose by fixture family first, not wattage alone.
  2. Check whether the included TRIAC driver is enough. Standard 120V residential dimming usually does not need an add-on driver.
  3. Confirm input voltage. Commercial-voltage projects require the correct optional driver.
  4. Choose dimming/control type. TRIAC is typical residential; 0-10V is typical commercial; DALI must be confirmed before quoting.
  5. Confirm load/wattage. For tape and puck projects, size the driver to the actual load and required headroom.
  6. Check emergency requirements. Use one emergency driver per fixture where required by code or specification.
  7. Verify compatibility before ordering. Do not substitute constant-current recessed drivers across fixture families.

Emergency driver rules

  • BLD-HM08D-YYY: 8W emergency output.
  • BLD-HM15D-YYY: 15W emergency output.
  • Use one emergency driver per fixture.
  • If fixture wattage is at or below the emergency driver rating, the fixture may run at full emergency output.
  • If fixture wattage is above the emergency driver rating, the 0-10V dimmable driver and low-voltage dimming wires are required; emergency mode operates at reduced/minimum dim level.
  • Always check the exact model line for YES/NO/N/A compatibility before ordering.

Important compatibility cautions

  • Lotus recessed 0-10V drivers are constant-current drivers matched to specific fixture families. Do not substitute drivers just because wattage appears similar.
  • Light By Lotus HBL drivers must match connector type and CCT version. 2-prong and 3-prong versions are not interchangeable.
  • Plenum spaces may require armored-cable TR versions where listed.
