Monitor Audio AWC280-T2 is the 8-inch, dual-channel model in Monitor Audio's IP55-certified All Weather In-Ceiling range. It is sold as one physical speaker but is designed to reproduce stereo from a single ceiling opening, using one 8-inch C-CAM cone bass driver, two fixed-angle 1-inch C-CAM Gold Dome tweeters and independent left/right channel connections.

The larger 8-inch chassis provides a current published response of 50 Hz–30 kHz, 100 W RMS power handling and 109 dBA maximum SPL. Installation requires a 247 mm round cutout and 97.6 mm mounting depth.

One physical speaker, two audio channels

The key distinction with AWC280-T2 is that single-unit packaging does not mean mono operation. The product occupies one ceiling position but accepts and reproduces two programme channels. Monitor Audio twins and angles the two 1-inch C-CAM Gold Dome tweeters specifically to deliver stereo sound from a single installed speaker where a conventional left/right ceiling pair is impractical.

Plan the wiring path as a dual-channel location. The speaker must be connected according to its independent channel terminal arrangement rather than treated as a standard one-input ceiling loudspeaker.

Why choose the 8-inch T2 platform?

AWC280-T2 is the larger dual-channel alternative to AWC265-T2. Both provide stereo from one physical ceiling speaker and carry the same IP55 environmental rating, but the AWC280-T2 uses an 8-inch bass driver, extends the published lower-frequency limit to 50 Hz, raises RMS power handling to 100 W and requires a larger 247 mm opening.

Choose the 8-inch T2 when the ceiling cavity can accommodate its larger dimensions and the project benefits from the additional published low-frequency / output capability. Choose the 6.5-inch T2 when a smaller 211 mm opening and shallower 88.5 mm mounting depth are more important.

Built for demanding environments

Monitor Audio's All Weather construction is designed with heightened resistance to water, dust, corrosion, UV exposure and temperature. The range uses corrosion-conscious materials including an SS430 stainless-steel grille and is identified by the manufacturer as tested / certified against salt spray, UV stability, water, vibration and anti-corrosion conditions.

The manufacturer positions the range for demanding locations such as bathrooms, beach houses, saunas and marine environments. IP55 is not a submersion rating; the actual location, wiring, ceiling construction and applicable installation requirements still govern suitability.

Amplifier and wiring requirements

AWC280-T2 is specified as 8 + 8 ohms with 100 W RMS power handling. Monitor Audio recommends 20–100 W amplification. Sensitivity is explicitly published as 88 dB (1 W @ 1 m, both channels driven).

The manufacturer's current product page describes the connection as 2 × (2 pairs) gold-plated push-style terminals. This reflects the product's dual-channel electrical architecture; follow the official wiring identification when connecting the left and right inputs.

The current manufacturer specification identifies CL-B as the pre-construction bracket and CML-BOX as the back box for AWC280-T2. Those current references supersede older CB8-era mappings in dated source material.

An optional square grille is supported for the 8-inch AWC chassis. The exact current product page publishes a 285 × 285 mm outer dimension but does not expose a grille part number in the specification, so this PDP does not inherit a potentially stale code.

AWC280 or AWC280-T2?

Choose AWC280 when the ceiling position represents one audio channel. Choose AWC280-T2 when the same single physical opening must reproduce both stereo channels.
